Learn Guitar

As a new guitar player one of the first things will want to learn is how to play your guitar chords. There are many different kinds of guitar chords. When starting out, however, you will want to learn what are called your basic guitar chords.

Basic beginner guitar chords are located within the first three frets of your guitar. Beginner guitar chords are great way for guitar players to get started without feeling overwhelmed by all of the note possibilities on the guitar neck of the guitar.

When starting out with beginner guitar chords, the C major chord is a great beginner guitar chord to learn. C Major is a great chord to learn on because this chord will teach you the basic foundations of proper chord technique with your left and right hand. If you can play the C major chord, you’ll pretty much be able to play all of the other basic guitar chords found on the first three frets of your guitar.

Let’s take a look at how to play the C major chord.

1. Place your left first finger on the second string first fret.
2. Place your left second finger on the fourth string, second fret.
3. Place your left third finger on the fifth string third fret.
4. Strum the chord

With a little more detail, let’s now expand our study of the C major chord.

1. Place your left first finger on the second string first fret: When playing your guitar chords, remember to place your left fingers as close to the fret of your guitar as possible. The further back on the fret board you play, the higher chance you have of having a bad sounding note.

2. Place your left second finger on the fourth string, second fret: When pressing the guitar notes down with your left hand fingers; press hard enough to hear the guitar note. If you press to lightly you will not be able to hear the guitar note.

3. Place your left third finger on the fifth string third fret: You will want to make sure that your fingers are not touching any of the strings around the notes you are pressing on. If your left hand fingers are touching any other guitar notes; try shifting your fingers around, or moving your wrist forward.

4. Strum the chord: You are now ready to strum your C major chord. With your right hand holding a guitar pick, in a downward stroke, strum all of the guitar strings except for the sixth string. The sixth string should not be played. In order to not hear the sixth string, you can mute the sixth string with your left hand thumb. This will prevent you from being heard if you accidentally hit the E. string with your right hand.

Making Your Travel Plans More Environmentally Friendly

If you have led your family to live a greener lifestyle over the past year, it's only fitting that you give your vacation a green makeover as well. People are becoming more and more environmentally conscious, so it's no wonder that eco-friendly family vacations are growing in popularity.

friendly vacations are affordable and fit a wide range of tastes. By adjusting your schedule, making a few important choices and thinking with an environmentally friendly perspective, you can have a vacation that leaves less of an impression on Mother Earth. Here are 7 quick tips for a more environmentally friendly vacation:

1. Unplug. Traveling eco-friendly starts before you leave the house. Your home uses a lot of power even when you aren't there because of appliances that are left plugged in. Before you leave on your trip, be sure to unplug any unnecessary appliances such as your television, your computer and even your washer and dryer.

2. Configure your Furnace or AC. Turn off your heating and cooling system, if possible. If you live in an area where your pipes would freeze, or if you have pets that need climate control while you are gone, be sure to learn how to program your AC and heater so they aren't running continuously while you are gone. Set some of your lights on a timer for security purposes. You'll save money and save power as well.

3. Fly direct. If you are flying to your vacation destination, try to find a direct flight from your home airport to your destination. Airplanes use a lot of fuel when they land and take off. By flying direct, you'll be saving on the fuel that is distributed into the air. You're also voting with your dollars and encouraging the airline to have more direct flights.

4. Purchase Carbon Offset Credits. You can also opt for Carbon Off-set credits to offset the fuel used in your flight. Ask your airline if it offers a carbon off-set program. If not, you can always buy credits from a separate company. The company will use that money to fund renewable energy products or plant trees.

5. Consider all your travel options. Look into taking the train instead of an airplane. Riding on the train can be a fun experience for the whole family. Not only will you be using less fuel but it will be a trip that your children will remember for years to come.

6. Rent a hybrid. When you arrive at your destination, rent a hybrid car to get you from place to place or take public transportation.

7. Stay at eco-friendly hotels. When searching for a place to stay, ask about the hotel's eco-friendly policies. Many major chains are practicing recycling, using non-toxic cleaning products or replacing regular light bulbs with energy efficient ones. By asking, you are letting the hotel industry know that you care about these issues. You can find independent eco-friendly hotels by searching online. The Green Hotels Association has a list of environmentally friendly vacation spots.

Eco-friendly vacations are easily within your reach if you do some simple research. You don't have to visit the middle of rainforest to be environmentally friendly. You can get an eco-friendly vacation by simply making better choices for your travel options.

Helps Your Human Resources Problems

Next time you get your wages you should seriously consider taking your Payroll Administrator out for coffee. Payroll Management is an extraordinarily complicated job.

Here is an example of the work a Payroll Administrator must perform to do her job. In any given pay period, your Payroll Administrator must process and issue employee paychecks plus calculate statements of earnings and deductions. She has to keep accurate track of employee time, absenteeism and other records. She also has to provide information to workers and executives on payroll matters, benefit plans, and collective agreement provisions.

If that weren’t enough your Payroll Administrator must keep up with new laws. This is especially relevant in light of the current economic situation. For example, the new American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, effects how much workers need to contribute to their the COBRA medical premiums should they be laid off involuntarily and how much credit the employer can claim to offset the balance. If all this sounds like a lot of mumbo-jumbo to you think of how your poor Payroll Administrator must feel! (if you are interested in this particular issue you can check it out on IRS.gov)

A viable alternative to this administrative morass is to employ a professional organization that can take up the administrative duties of a Payroll Administrator as well as other HR functions such as Benefits Mangement. A Profession Employer Organization (PEO) is an administering firm that becomes the employer of record for the client company. The workers in this instance are leased back to the client firm. This approach not only offers administrative relief for a company executive, it can also minimize liability stemming from HR issues such as Payroll Administration.

Another option is the Administrative Services Organization (ASO) solution. An ASO is capable of doing all the HR activities that a PEO can do but it does not require the administrative company be the employer of record for the workers. The added bonus is that the client firm can pick and choose ala carte HR tasks to outsource such as Payroll or Benefits Administration.

Now that you’re clued in on the intricacies of a Payroll Administrator’s job don’t you think she deserves to be taken out for lunch!

To find out more about Payroll Administration you should check out AstraHR.com, Astra HR, an HR Administration firm.

Take on the administrative burden of payroll processing

Provide benefits administration and support

Gain access to quality employee options

Leverage cutting-edge technology solution

Gain access to industry expert Human Resources expertsprofessionals

Implement Human Resources Best Practices

Most Administrative Services Outsourcing (ASO)s will have a Human Resource Information System which allows the client company to access up-to-date personnel data at any time.

A flexible, tailored approach to Human Resources administration should combine an integrated, single source technology solution delivering efficiencies across all aspects of Human Resources management. Clients can outsource some or all Human Resources tasks, or simply enhance existing support capabilities. Either way, a PEO or ASO solution provides companies with relief from administrative burdens. Both PEO and ASO are good options which enable you to focus on your core business competencies and ultimately your overall success.

Dealing with Menopause

You and your husband can work together during the trying times of menopause instead of having friction because of it. It is expected to be very difficult during the start of menopause when almost all of symptoms arise with more frequency. To maintain a healthy and enjoyable relationship during this time, it is best to have your spouse and family members understand that you need their understanding and care the most as you go through this natural change in your life.

Here are among the many things that could be done by both you and your spouse to effectively cope with menopause together:

* If you are feeling unattractive and undesirable, let your spouse know so that he will know how to respond to your mood. Although it is not likely that you will believe him when he gives you compliments, his love, care, kindness, and support would help ease your feelings of inferiority.

* Educate your husband about your mood swings. Once you are experiencing one of them, this will give a signal to your husband to keep silent. Although your husband might see you as irrational during these times, his keeping silent would help you calm down some.

* Tell your husband what to expect when it comes to your sex life. Because there is a great chance that your feelings towards sex will change during menopause, let your husband know about this. This is so you can work something out together so that this problem can be addressed and your sex life brought back to what it once was. A healthy sex life would not only help you cope with your menopause better, it will also be good for your relationship with your husband.

* Encourage your husband to listen to what you have to say. Tell him that you need a partner to talk to during this trying stage and he is the best one that you could have. Give him an important role in this time of your life, so that he will work at putting himself in your shoes and won’t just brush off your thoughts and feelings as if they were nothing.

* Let your husband know how his thoughtfulness could be very much appreciated during those times when you are bothered by menopausal symptoms and possibly in one of your mood swings. By doing this, your husband could perhaps give you flowers or a card or equally something to let you know that he understands and loves you. Let him know how refreshing it would be if he would make the dinner plans instead of the other way around.

* Make a household partner out of your husband. If you are feeling overwhelmed by what you are going through on top of your busy schedule, it would help if you will work out a system with your husband on which household chores should fall on your lap as well as on his. This will make your husband feel important and part of what you are going through.

In moments of perfect sanity, tell your husband you love him and appreciate what he is doing for you. This will make your husband glad that he has been the perfect partner in coping with the problems you are having while going through menopause.

Lifestyle Affects Cancer Risks

During February 2009, results of a joint American-British study concluded that 1/3 of most common cancer cases in the U.S. to be preventable by making healthy choices. Next to avoiding smoking, a healthy lifestyle is the most effective thing you can do to prevent cancer.

Dr. Tim Byers of the University of Colorado at Denver, stated that even though estimating cancer preventability is very complex and involves making some assumptions, the figures in the report are as good an estimate as possible about the number of cases that could be prevented through healthy diet, regular physical activity and maintaining a healthy weight.

At the AICR (American Institute for Cancer Research) Conference 2008, 400 people attended and participated in prevention topics such as: potential risks and benefits of specific dietary supplements, how changing eating and physical activity may affect cancer survivorship and effective ways to get people to adopt healthy behaviors and stick to them. Certain nutrients found in food that can change how a person’s genes function to influence cancer risk were also discussed.

The AICR urges people to eat a healthy diet that includes a wide variety of vegetables, fruits, whole grains and beans. Here, you will also get your nutrients, fiber and cancer fighting phytochemicals.

The cancer preventing benefits found in cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cabbage and bok choy have been well known. Allium vegetables like onion, garlic, shallots, scallions and chives contain sulphur compounds called organosulfides which are touted for providing heart health, stimulating immunity, warding off infection and deactivating carcinogens. According to research, this compound also seems to help prevent cells from mutating and tumors from forming. In general, the foods of the Allium family decrease inflammation and protect against stomach and colorectal cancers.

Robert S. Chapkin, Ph.D., presented the conference data describing how omega-3 fatty acids may prevent colon tumors. At first, the omega-3 fatty acids in fish were linked with lower risk of heart disease. Now, research at the cellular level is beginning to reveal a possible link with lower risk of cancer. Sources of omega-3 fatty acids include: oily fish such as salmon and tuna, flax seed/oil and walnuts which contain ALA-alpha-linolenic acid which slows the growth of breast cancer cells.

Dr. Zeke Emanuel, an oncologist and director of bioethics at the National Institutes of Health emphasized the need for people to keep their weight in a healthy range. Besides eating a nutritious diet, people need to include 30 minutes of exercise into their days, at least four days every week. Exercise plays a multiple role in human health, benefiting the circulatory system, muscular/skeletal system and increases the effectiveness of our immunity system to fend off beginning cancer cell growth and foreign invaders like bacteria and virus’.

Some of the recommendations for policy improvements to government, industry, media, schools, workplaces and humanity are:

•Governments should build walking and cycling routes.
•The food and drinks industry should make public health an “explicit priority.”
•Schools should encourage exercise and provide healthy food.
•Schools, workplaces and institutions should remove junk food from vending machines.
•Health professionals should provide more information about healthy living and cancer prevention.
•People should use nutrition guides and food labels to buy healthier food for their families.

AICR Recommendations for Cancer Prevention include:

•Be as lean as possible without becoming underweight.
•Be physically active for at least 30 minutes every day.
•Avoid sugary drinks. Limit consumption of energy dense foods (particularly processed foods high in added sugar or low in fiber, or high in fat).
•Eat more of a variety of vegetables, fruits, whole grains and legumes such as beans.
•Limit consumption of red meats (such as beef, pork and lamb) and avoid processed meats.
•If consumed at all, limit alcoholic drinks to 2 for men and 1 for women a day.
•Limit consumption of salty foods and foods processed with salt (sodium).
•Don’t use supplements to protect against cancer.

Special Population Recommendations
•It is best for mothers to breastfeed exclusively for up to 6 months and then add other liquids and foods.
•After treatment, cancer survivors should follow the recommendations for cancer prevention.

And always remember
– Do not smoke or chew tobacco
