The series starts with Will (the main character) on his first day at a new school. Previously Will attended a private school but because of money problems, has been relocated to a state school. The experiences of his first day include being bullied by fellow students and insulting his head of sixth form, Mr Gilbert. Later on in the episode he meets the three other main characters: Simon, Jay and Neil.
After hearing about a student gathering organised for later that evening at a local pub, Will decides to join them. Trying to impress his new-found friends, the underage Will attempts to illegally purchase alcohol. After failing to convince the bartender of his eligibility for the purchase, Will vents his frustration and, as a result, reveals the underage status of all the students, getting them all thrown out.
After getting them thrown out, Will's former classmates take a big dislike to him. Also, this starts the feud between him and Mark Donovan.
